PMR Model (Prey Model Raw)

PMR is a structured raw feeding approach based on clearly defined animal-based component groups. This page serves as a reference: it explains the model as a whole, then details each component.

Considerations for adult dogs and puppies included.

Main idea

PMR is not simply “feeding raw meat.” It is a feeding structure made up of different ingredient groups, each with a specific nutritional and digestive role.

Main component groups

PMR is built around four main groups: muscle meat, raw meaty bones, liver, and other secreting organs.

Muscle meat

Muscle meat forms the caloric foundation of the PMR diet. It provides high-quality protein, as well as iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Its fat content varies depending on the species and cut.

Lean and fatty cuts do not produce the same digestive effects. Fat influences energy, stool texture, and coat condition.

Raw meaty bones

Raw meaty bones provide calcium and play an essential role in calcium-phosphorus balance. They also influence stool firmness.

In PMR, these are consumable bones attached to meat, not heavy weight-bearing bones intended only for chewing.

Liver

Liver is extremely nutrient-dense, especially in vitamin A, B12, and copper. Because it is highly concentrated, it should be introduced gradually to avoid digestive upset.

Other secreting organs

Other organs such as kidney or spleen provide additional micronutrient diversity. They complement liver and contribute to a more varied diet over the long term.

Mineral relationship: Calcium and Phosphorus

Muscle meat mainly contains phosphorus, while bone provides calcium. The balance between these two minerals is essential for bone health and nutritional stability.

Adult dogs generally tolerate gradual adjustments. In puppies, growth makes mineral balance much more sensitive.

Common mistakes

Problems often appear when several variables change at the same time: rapid bone adjustments, organs introduced too quickly, or excessive protein rotation.

A stable approach is to change only one parameter at a time and observe the effects over several meals.
